I say tomato, you say tomatoe

Our annual sauce making is complete for another year! Sugo (Italian) making is one of my favourite family events. For my international followers, by tomato sauce I am talking about the kind you would mix through your pasta; not what I think you would refer to as ketchup!

For a school project, my youngest explained the process of sugo-making to her class via a PowerPoint presentation, and now I’m going to ‘borrow’ bits of it here.

All or nothing

I’m happy to say that I’ve been far too busy to post weekly blogs! I have a number of editing projects on the go. The work varies between copyediting a manuscript for a novel, editing short stories, and also some IT work editing work safety diagrams for a business. I’m loving it!

All this is on top of my existing work 3 days a week, ensuring my employer meets their quality accreditation obligations. Of course, there are always the ever-present demands of my little family too. I wouldn’t change a thing!

I’m also working on my official website lauradobra.com.au behind the scenes, which currently sends curious visitors here, to my blog. Stay tuned for more info about my projects, but more importantly – posts about entirely useful things like, How to make Laura’s Italian pasta sauce and meatballs!

I did it!

Hello all my lovely friends and followers!

You may have noticed I haven’t blogged in a while (my bad!), but I have an excuse. I’ve been working hard to finish my course, and I did it – I’ve graduated and have my Certificate IV in Professional Writing and Editing!

I started this blog as a requirement of the course, but I’d love to continue with it. I plan to set up a website for myself, begin applying for freelance editing and writing jobs online, and also pitch my writing to magazines and papers. However, I need a break, so for now I’m going to celebrate graduating from my second course (I already have a degree in Information Technology), and leave you with a link to a story, The Mask which I wrote for my portfolio. Hope you like it.

This summer, my family, our friend Dan and his two children stayed in a rental property on Molloy Island, Western Australia. The house had all the usual amenities, but we were still required to bring our own linen and our own food (all of it – as there are no shops on the island). Dan and I began messaging about what to pack. He wrote, ‘I’ll…take whatever is in my fridge and pantry with us (as long as it fits in the car) ha ha.’ Hilarious. No.   (more…)

Be brave. Be kind. Be present.

I woke up New Year’s Day and realised I hadn’t written my monthly blog post. Oh, the horror! 😉 Immediately I began brainstorming blog topics like, ‘it’s the start of another year’, ‘time to make New Year resolutions’ – at which point I think I did a little vomit in my mouth. Puh-lease! Someone telling me to try a new hobby, lose some weight, achieve my goals by June blah blah blah, just makes me want to cringe!

We all want to start off our year well, but I believe we need to look at life-long attitude changes, not a 2018 quick-fix. (more…)
